Terrific Tenerife Holidays
The Canary Island that has the highest mountain in Spain (and a volcano at that!) is a holiday destination that is worth its salt. Hard to say whether Tenerife holidays are the most popular of the Canary group, as it has its own individual attractions and it certainly has a loyal band of followers. A great annual record of sunshine, very unusual geographical structure and breathtaking scenery are some of the characteristics of Tenerife and some of the elements that bring visitors to the island time and again. Close neighbour of Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, the islands together with Fuerteventura and La Gomera, form the Canary Islands, so beloved of the Irish tourist. Blessed with a warm, mild climate, Tenerife has some very varied scenery as the north is fertile, green and forest rich (the National Park at Las Canadas with Mt Teide towering over all is case in point) and the south is like a desert. However, the “desert” just happens to have dark sand beaches where the Atlantic licks the shore. Western Tenerife is a bit like Donegal with a barbarous indented coast full of surf, rocky headlands and isolated, pristine bays.
The most visited area of Tenerife is the southern coast where Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje reign like Queens of all they survey. Really, if you haven’t heard of these resorts, you lead a very sheltered life. Long sunny days, beaches, deep sea fishing, evening strolls on the promenade, delicious food in traditional restaurants and a bit of craic in the local Irish pub is a fair example of a day on Tenerife holidays. Not too shabby at all…… By the way, Tenerife some less than shabby golf courses too, so see you on the tee box!
Every visitor must have a current, valid Passport. Irish citizens do not require a visa.
