The resort of Praia do Vau on Portugal’s Algarve coast used to be a little secret only known to the local Portuguese who flocked here every Sunday to enjoy the wonderful sandy beach. Alas, (for them!) the word got out and Praia do Vau holidays are now terrifically popular and is a favourite family style holiday spot. The brilliant beach is why the Portuguese came here in the first place. Soft golden sand and water that does not curve too steeply meant children swam and paddled in safety and parents could take up residence under the brollies and striped awnings and call the kids in for sandy sandwiches. Living next door to Praia da Rocha means too that both resorts can benefit one from the other, so you can double up on restaurants and local bars. 

Very much a family resort, Praia do Vau is a special place for adults and kids. Renowned as having one of the best beaches in the entire Algarve (and that’s some boast!), because the water is shallow and safe, families are attracted too as the infrastructure is family friendly. The hotels and apartments cater to the needs of family groups and offer super swimming pools, in-house entertainment and reasonably priced food. The restaurants and pubs on Praia do Vau holidays know their business too and they offer great value for family meals and plenty of ceol agus craic in the pubs at night. From what used to be a bit of a backwater, Praia do Vau is now a very busy, successful resort and it’s definitely a place that can shine with the best of them.

Everyone needs a current, valid Passport, but no visa is necessary for Irish citizens. Other nationalities should check with their Embassy.

The best thing to do on Praia do Vau holidays is to enjoy the wonderful beach – endless stretches of the softest, pale golden sand will have you burrowing your toes in delight! Hire a peddle boat or bring the family on a boat ride. Relax and enjoy the laid back atmosphere of a lovely resort.
