Purpose built around a natural marina (crammed to bursting with elaborate boats, expensive yachts and commercial craft for hire), Vilamoura holidays are a force to be reckoned with. Quite a number of the Algarve’s top class hotels are located in this area too, so Vilamoura has certainly attracted the rich and famous, so old money and nouveau riche all mingle together like a happy band of escudo and euro. Permanently tanned bodies parade the marina rim and the waterside cafes are people watching paradise. Vilamoura is absolutely the resort to choose if you enjoy sailing as there are many options to hire or learn to sail. Like a twin (but not identical!), the local resort of Quarteira, right beside Vilamoura, is a great option to enjoy some traditional fish dishes and local bars.
